Board & train is a style of dog training that fully immerses dogs into a new environment, where dogs receive daily training, structured exercise, and socialization with other dogs, and achieve results in a short period of time.
Having done thousands of board and trains over the years, we continue to see how beneficial it is for dogs to leave home for a while to live with a pack of dogs and have daily training.
Your dog will be challenged daily around distractions – like other dogs, public places, and new people – which is a huge part of the “real world success” of this program.
Through proper routine, positive interaction with the trainer and exposure to other well trained dogs, your dog will develop good behaviors at a rapid pace.
Board & train at The Calm K9
At The Calm K9 board and train program, your dog comes to live with us and our pack in the Orlando Florida area. While this may seem like a big change for your dog, that’s precisely the point.
Our board & train program provides the perfect environment for dog development. By living with Curtis Craig — world-renowned dog behavior expert — and his personal pack, your dog experiences a proper lifestyle 24/7.
Your dog will be treated like one of our own dogs. He or she will be well fed and kept in a safe, clean environment with trainers that first and foremost love and respect dogs. Though much of our program is based on the best practice in behavior development, you should know that we became dog trainers through a natural process and for no other reason than our love for dogs.
During your dog’s stay we work with your dog multiple times per day, teaching basic obedience, off-leash e-collar training, socialization with other dogs, people and animals, and in some cases behavior modification.
Though our training program is progressive and intense, it is also great fun as your dog gets to run, play and interact with other dogs. The end result is a dog that is calm and connected to its leader.
Our training covers all of the basic commands including: Heel, Sit/Stay, Place, Waiting at Thresholds, and Recall.
In addition to our command training we will resolve any negative behavior issues, such as jumping, barking, aggression, etc.
What’s special about our board & train
We limit the number of dogs that we have at one time to ensure a better focus on your dog. This allows us to give them the time and attention that they deserve. All dogs, no matter what breed, age, or history will develop good behaviors through our program.
Our board and train programs are designed for the busy family or person. Once your dog comes home, all you have to do is maintain their training. It’s for folks that want the luxury of having a well mannered dog, but don’t have the time or expertise to train their dog themselves.
One of the things that sets our program apart from others is the massive amount of dog to dog interaction and socialization. This will increase your dog’s ability to learn, adapt and obey even when in contact with other dogs, which would normally be a distraction.
We have taken severely aggressive dogs & transformed them into calm K9’s that can interact peacefully around other dogs and people. This can save the life of a dog that is given no other options than to be ‘put down’.
A typical day at our board & train program
Your dog will sleep inside our home in one of our climate controlled kennel rooms. Our goal while your dog is here is for them to stay in a nice relaxed environment. First thing in the morning, all dogs go out for their morning potty break and then come back in for their breakfast.
After breakfast, they rest for about an hour and then we get started with their training. Dogs go through several hours of hands-on training, alternating between active commands, duration work, socialization with our balanced pack, and specific behavior modification.
They will also receive plenty of rest, down time, and personal one-on-one attention. Your dog will enjoy two 15 minute play periods where they will get to play in our fenced in yard. You dog’s safety is our number one priority.
What happens after board & train?
Your dog will go home with their obedience training foundation, and a new, calmer, tuned-in, obedient, and more polite state of mind — but how will all the skills and behaviors your dog learns at board & train transfer to you when your dog goes home?
We supply you with thorough after-training protocols and instructions so you can maintain the proper routine and good behaviors that we have established with your dog. Your responsibility is to apply the training and follow through – your dog already knows their stuff, you just need to stick with it!
Additionally, you will have plenty of time with us before and after your dog’s stay to discuss how to continue your dog’s training. We are always here to help even after your dog goes home.
It is extremely important that you and everyone in contact with your dog follow our guidelines to establish the proper routine, reminders and relationship with your dog.
Your relationship with your dog will naturally be improved as you will be able to effectively communicate to a dog that now understands all of the basic commands.
